Deshamanya Bradman Weerakoon
Advisor to nine Prime Ministers and Presidents of Sri Lanka. In 1953, he was appointed as the Assistant Secretary to the Prime Minister during the period of Sir John Kotelawela. He later became his secretary and continued in that role after Solomon Bandaranaike became Prime Minister in 1956. After Bandaranaike’s death, he served under Vijayananda Dahanayake and Sirimavo Bandaranaike. He subsequently worked for Dudley Senanayake as well. After Sirimavo won the election again in 1970, he was transferred as Government Agent (Sri Lanka) to Batticaloa and later to Ampara. He retired from his post in 1976. In 1977, J.R. Jayawardene appointed him as the Secretary to the Ministry of Plantation. In 1980, he joined the prime ministerial staff of Ranasinghe Premadasa as secretary. Following the ethnic riots of 1983, he was appointed as Commissioner-General of Essential Services with wide-ranging administrative powers. After Mr. Premadasa’s death, he continued as the advisor to his successor, D.B. Wijetunge, and resigned again in 1994 when Chandrika Kumaratunga came to power. After Ranil Wickremesinghe became Prime Minister in 2001, Weerakoon was reappointed to his previous position as Secretary.


Mr. B. H. H. Sally
Captain of the Sri Lankan Football Team in 1962 and Secretary General of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka in 2005. Sally captained the Sri Lanka Football Team in the Agha Khan Gold Cup Tournament held in East Pakistan in 1962 and was also a member of the national team, representing Sri Lanka in the same tournament in 1961 and 1964.
He represented Sri Lanka at the 3rd Asian Youth Tournament held in Thailand in 1961 and was a member of the first Sri Lankan Football Team that played against All India in Bangalore during the Olympic qualifying round in 1963. He also participated in the Southern Football Pentangular Tournament held in Kerala in 1963.
Sally became the first runner-up of the “Footballer of the Year” contest conducted by the National Press in conjunction with the Football Federation of Sri Lanka’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1963, receiving a trophy from the late Sir Stanley Rous, former President of the World Football Body.
He also represented Sri Lanka against visiting teams from East and West Germany, Brazil, Switzerland, Sweden, Indonesia, and All India. He was elected Secretary General of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka unanimously at the Annual General Meeting held on 26th March 2005.
Mr. Jayantha Silva
Left-arm orthodox spinner who represented the Sri Lankan Cricket Team from 1995 to 2000.
He played for Physical Culture Sports Club (Kalutara), Blomfield C & A Club (Colombo), and Singhalese Sports Club (Colombo) from 1992 to 2000. He was a slow left-arm orthodox spinner and represented the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team from 1995 to 2000.
He started his Test career in Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Sydney on 26th December 1995. His debut in One Day Internationals (ODI) took place against New Zealand at Jade Stadium on 26th March 1995. During his short but energetic career with the National Team, he played in seven Test matches and one ODI. His best achievement was taking 4 wickets for 16 runs. In 2000, he migrated to Australia and continued playing for several cricket clubs there. He represented Marnatha Cricket Club in Melbourne during the 2000/2001 season and Flinders Cricket Club in Melbourne from 2002 to 2004. In 2002, he became the best bowler in the tournament by capturing 46 wickets.


Mr. Eardley Perera
First Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Sri Lanka Branch & Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing
Mr. Eardley Perera is a Chartered Marketer and a graduate of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, having received management training in Sweden, the U.K., Korea, the Philippines, and Singapore. He was the Non-Executive Chairman of M & E (Private) Limited and a Director of consultancy companies STING Consultants and BRAND, as well as Keells Food Products Ltd. He was also a member of the Board of Study at the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayawardanepura. Mr. Perera has over two decades of experience as a lecturer in professional and university courses. He is a Founder Member and the first Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Sri Lanka Branch (the first overseas branch of the CIM, U.K.) and the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing. In recognition of his contributions to marketing education and the development of marketing as a profession, the CIM, U.K. has honored him with Honorary Membership and awarded him the highest recognition, including the Institute Medal and The President’s Medal. The Sri Lanka Branch of CIM has also awarded him the prestigious Recognition Award.
Justice Suresh Chandra Supreme Court Judge
Justice Suresh Chandra studied at Holy Cross College, Kalutara, until 1963. During his school days, he was a brilliant cricketer and initially represented the Kalutara Town Club in the Daily News cricket tournament.
He entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Colombo in September 1967, following in the footsteps of his father, the late S. S. Rajaratnam, who had a lucrative practice in the Kalutara bar. After obtaining his LLB from the University, he completed his Master’s in Law and was called to the bar in 1972.
Justice Suresh Chandra had a varied and extensive practice in both branches of the law in lower and appellate courts. He was a consultant to the International Labour Organization and several other prestigious organizations and institutions, particularly in the field of Labour Law and allied fields.
Justice Suresh Chandra successfully combined a robust academic career with extensive experience, lecturing in law and serving as an examiner for over 30 years at several leading institutions in the country, including the Law College, the Open University, and the University of Colombo.
